1,775 Unaccompanied Minors Apply for Asylum in EU Nations

(MENAFN) European Union nations processed asylum requests from 1,775 unaccompanied children during September, according to Eurostat figures published Tuesday.

Eritrea, Afghanistan, Somalia, Venezuela, and Egypt represented the primary source countries for these vulnerable young applicants traveling without adult guardians.

The Netherlands, Germany, and Spain emerged as the leading destination states for unaccompanied minor asylum seekers within the bloc.

Broader asylum data reveals EU countries registered 58,495 initial asylum applications throughout September—a substantial 24% decline compared with September 2024, yet representing a 14% uptick from August 2025 figures.

During the third quarter of 2025, EU member states issued 209,860 first-instance asylum determinations, granting protected status in 43% of cases. Spain led with 25,005 favorable rulings, followed by Germany with 23,325 approvals and France recording 16,245 positive decisions.

Afghan, Venezuelan, and Ukrainian nationals secured the majority of protection grants during the July-September period.
